AICTE (ALL India Council of Technical Education) Guidelines
No, students can not do distance/online b tech after diploma because as per AICTE guidelines distance education is not valid, instead of that they can join b tech evening program/b tech lateral entry courses after diploma and they will be eligible for the lateral entry which means direct entry into the second year (Skipping the first year).
Diploma helps the student to learn the basics of engineering and helps them to lay the foundation for the engineering course. The diploma course is designed in such a way that covers all the subjects which are taught in the first year of the engineering course enabling students to get direct entry into the second year thus skipping the first year. As per AICTE (ALL India Council of Technical Education) guidelines, Students who have completed the Diploma are eligible for the B Tech course as well as students are also eligible for entry into the second year thus enabling students to complete their b tech in 3 year time frame. AICTE has made it mandatory for all the universities to follow this guideline on a strict basis.
Students who has done diploma are eligible for lateral entry. B Tech lateral entry means that the diploma holders will get entry directly into the second year thus skipping the first year due to overlapping of the majority of subjects and concepts. B Tech lateral entry is equivalent to Regular B Tech and there is no difference in the structure of the course, placement opportunities, etc.
This is a myth that B Tech lateral entry is not equivalent and companies give less importance to those students who has done B Tech through lateral entry. It is a complete myth and AICTE has clearly mentioned in their press release about the same. Students can also contact the regulatory authority (AICTE) and confirm the same. In the final degree also, lateral entry word will not be mentioned as it is similar to B Tech Regular degree.
Now, coming to B Tech distance, it is gaining a lot of importance nowadays as it brings the flexibility to students to learn through an online learning management system thus helping them to complete their degree without leaving the jobs. So, now the job is not a barrier at all for the Diploma holders to pursue their dream of completing a B Tech Degree.
They can do it through B Tech Evening Program and can uplift their career. Job opportunities for engineering is increasing day by day and after completion of the degree, they can uplift their career by joining different companies at a good package. Even the job opportunities remain the same and B Tech distance/online is available in various specializations like Mechanical, Civil, Computer Science, mechanical automobile & electronics and communication. Distance B Tech, on the other hand, has the largest search volumes on the internet, which Lingayas Vidyapeeth has covered. The goal of covering distance b tech is to raise awareness of its ineffectiveness, not to promote it. By no means does Lingayas Vidyapeeth encourage or provide B tech distance education.
